In the eyes of the Law...

Richard had his first taste of karting Geordie-style on Wednesday 1st June, at an open test day at the Warden Law circuit near Sunderland, in preparation for the Super 1 round there next month. Despite tipping it down all day, Richard's spirits were high, and he enjoyed the circuit, setting times not far off TKM Extreme pacesetters for the day, Philip Stanley and fellow Scot Zack Daines, both running with Litchfield Motorsport. He now can't wait to race the circuit for real!

Busy weekend

Despite missing the 2nd round of the Scottish Super Series at Boyndie, Richard still had plenty on his plate for the weekend of 7th-8th May.

Saturday saw him as part of a team representing Scottish karting at the Scottish Motor Fair held at Knockhill. The highlight of the day was a 5 minute on-track display, with a dozen karts from the various age groups and classes, ranging from novice Cadets right through to Andrew Harvey’s 125cc gearbox, racing around the fast triangular stock car circuit at Taylors Hairpin. The large crowd seemed to thoroughly enjoy the spectacle, and the drivers relished the challenge of driving near flat out over some very bumpy and dusty parts of the circuit! It seemed like God was on the karting team’s side too, as there was a very heavy hailstorm just seconds after they left the track! Other highlights of the day included the awesome performances of the Ford GT and Scuderia Ecosse Ferrari 360, and Richard setting fastest time of the day on the F1 simulator!

On Sunday he was in action at the Air Cadet Wing Athletics Championship in Aberdeen. He won his heat in the 100m with a time of 13.72s, but this wasn’t quite quick enough overall when compared to the other heat and he only just missed out on the medals. 400m was a tough race, just losing out in a sprint to the line for 3rd place, everybody well and truly knackered by the end of a race held in strong wind and rain. Thankfully the sun was back out again for the relay race, but sadly it was one to forget. By the time the baton reached Richard on the last stint, the 1297 Stonehaven team was in last place, and a fumbled change-over saw the baton hit the ground, the team’s chances disappearing with it. Although Richard hurriedly picked it up and tried his hardest to catch up with the pack, it was all in vain. Perhaps he should stick to the day job!
